Running a site

Six tabs in the admin area, reachable from the Sites tab of your Preferences. Membership has a guide of its own, and so does publishing from GitHub; these are the other three.

#General

The site’s Display name, and its Visibility. The subdomain is shown here but is not editable — links to it are already out in the world. If one has to change, contact support and Internote will change it for you.

Under Content stats, two switches decide what visitors who are not contributors see on the site’s internotes and maps: Show ratings and Show views. Contributors and admins always see the full figures regardless.

#What making a site private does

A private site stops being publicly visible, and it also withdraws from being featured or showcased on Internote. Existing members keep their access, and non-members cannot reach the site at all — not its home page, and not the internotes published under it.

#Branding

Four things, so the site looks like itself rather than a default.

  • Theme — the accent colour, either from the palette or a custom hex value, a default light or dark appearance for visitors, and whether visitors may change it themselves.
  • Navigation logo — shown in the nav and used as the favicon. Uploads take effect immediately rather than waiting for a save.
  • Home page — the welcome heading, an About passage, a hero logo and a banner, each with separate light and dark versions so neither theme gets an image built for the other. Soften banner lays an overlay over it where the image is too strong to read text against.
  • Footer links — the links in the site footer, in the order you set.

#Content

Home page decides which tabs the site home has and which sections sit inside each one. Sensible defaults ship with every site; this is where you depart from them. The tabs and their sections are saved together.

Reach holds Showcase on internote.co — whether the site’s published content can be discovered from the main platform as well as at the site’s own address.

Each section saves on its own, so changing the accent never risks the footer links you were halfway through editing. Image uploads are the exception and land immediately — there is no save to press, and no unsaved state to lose.

#Members and invites

The Members and Invites tabs have their own guide: Members, roles and invites.
