Notifications
Notifications appear in the menu behind your avatar. Six categories, each with its own switch under the Notifications tab of Preferences.
#The six categories
- Product news
- New features, templates and improvements, from Internote and from sites you belong to.
- Shares
- When someone shares an internote or map with you directly.
- Sites
- Joining a site, a change to your role, and invites being redeemed on sites you run.
- Forks
- When someone forks one of your published internotes.
- Engagement
- Ratings, bookmarks and completions on your work. Grouped, so a popular internote is one notification rather than fifty.
- Reports & support
- Outcomes of reports you filed, support tickets you opened, and reports on content at sites you administer.
#What switching one off does
It stops the notification being recorded, not merely hidden. A category you have switched off leaves no backlog to find later if you switch it on again.
Every category is on until you say otherwise, so a category added to Internote later arrives switched on rather than silently off.
#What you cannot switch off
Service notices — downtime, incidents, anything you have to act on — always arrive regardless of your settings. That is why the first category is called Product news rather than “Announcements”: it governs the optional announcements, and naming it for all of them would promise more control than it gives.
The one worth thinking about is Engagement. It is the category that tells you people are reading your work, and also the one that gets loud once something of yours does well. Preferences → Notifications.
